Statement of Purpose
"All who have meditated on the art of governing mankind have been convinced that the fate of empires depends on the education of youth."
--Aristotle, Lyceum Founder, Athens, Greece 335
We have watched the fate of civilizations; we have lived with mediocrity and apathy. We have seen the failure to improve bring about the failure to thrive. Children are seeds of the future for this civilization. Today's education is an important step in preparing them for their opportunity both to succeed as individuals and to improve the world in the way they are called.
As parents of students attending the Lowell High School Latin Lyceum program, we have formed with the purpose of promoting and continuous improvement of this school within a school. We contribute our skills and abilities for the benefit of the students currently enrolled as well as those of our future.
We will:
Promote
the teaching and concrete practice of good citizenship among the students
within the classroom, the school, and the greater community.
Formalize
an ongoing dialog with parents, teachers and administrators to challenge,
develop and improve curriculum.
Work
with students, teachers and administrators to communicate the structure and
benefits of this program to the greater Lowell community.
Develop
and administer fund raising as partial contribution for short and long term
support of this program.
Provide
an efficient conduit for communication of day-to-day information to all
parties.
